Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Vermont

Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Vermont

At the Office of the Federal Public Defender, we are dedicated to defending indigent persons charged with federal offenses. We are authorized and funded pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act, or CJA, 18 USC § 3006A, et seq.

The District of Vermont includes the entire state -- all fourteen counties. District Court locations are in Burlington and Rutland.

Our mission is to represent the interests of our clients with intelligence and courage, using the law and developing all the facts and aspects of our clients’ lives.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are changing the way we work. Our physical office is closed, but we continue to work remotely.  If you need to reach us please email vtfpd@fd.org  or call 802-862-6990, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Our immediate responsibility—everyone’s immediate responsibility—is to slow the spread of the contagion. And we do that by limiting contact with each other and other members of the general public. We thank you for your understanding.
